About Us

The Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service is responsible for the prosecution of offences under the Criminal Code and other provincial statutes.

The Public Prosecution Service is committed to developing our Articled Clerk into a lawyer with the skill set to excel in the practice of law. The Articling Program will provide our Clerk with a unique opportunity to gain experience in the traditional areas of practice with an emphasis on criminal law.

The Articling Program also includes a rotation with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice. Once there, you will assist with a wide range of transactions that are common to both the private and public sectors, including provision of legal advice on contracts, family law / child protection, real property, statutory interpretation, commercial transactions and construction law.

About Our Opportunity

The Articled Clerk will directly report to their supervising Crown Attorney, who reports to the Chief Crown Attorney for the region to which they are assigned. As an Articled Clerk, you are accountable for assisting Crown Attorneys in the provision of competent prosecution services and advising law enforcement agencies when requested. In this role, you will assist in conducting the prosecution of charges resulting from matters within the Public Prosecution Service mandate. In addition, you will be involved in other prosecution duties as directed by your principal Crown Attorney, such as conducting legal research, drafting memoranda and preparing legal briefs.

The work at the Public Prosecution Service is dynamic, interesting and demanding. Clerking with the Public Prosecution Service does not equate to doing only research. As an Articled Clerk, you will go to Court, work directly with victims, witnesses and police officers and assist/participate in criminal proceedings.

We are, however, also committed to ensuring that our employees have time for family and social lives.
