National Elder Law Section

WHEREAS there has been a dramatic increase in the population of senior citizens, and a consequent increase in demand for specialized services to meet their legal needs and issues;

WHEREAS elder law is a specialized area of law and practice which addresses these needs and issues; 

WHEREAS increasingly other professionals are seeking legal and ethical advice in these matters;

WHEREAS a forum does not currently exist for legal practitioners and others working in this area of law to exchange information and opinions;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

  1. The Canadian Bar Association establish a National Elder Law Section;
  2. The terms of reference for the Section be:

    Elder Law

    The purpose of this Section is to examine legal issues pertaining to the elderly and to promote a greater awareness of their needs among members of the legal profession, the judiciary and the Canadian public.
