The Canadian Bar Association unreservedly condemns the arrest of human rights lawyers in Iran, as reported by the Center for Human Rights in Iran.
According to those reports, lawyers willing to defend citizens protesting against their government’s denial of civil rights have been rounded up in unmarked vans outside the Iranian Bar Association offices in Tehran.
“As the largest association of legal professionals in Canada,” CBA President Steeves Bujold said, “we forcefully condemn the Iranian government’s latest attack on Iranian lawyers and call for their immediate release. Non-violent protesters should not fear state violence or arbitrary arrest, and neither should the lawyers who defend them. We stand in solidarity with human rights lawyers and women's rights activists in Iran.”
