The Canadian Bar Association is saddened at the passing of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who fought as bravely against cancer as she did against the notion that women were not equal to men.
Justice Ginsberg was known for the eloquence of her dissenting opinion. Perhaps that is because she saw dissent as more than just a counter-argument. "Dissents speak to a future age. It's not simply to say, 'My colleagues are wrong and I would do it this way.' But the greatest dissents do become court opinions and gradually over time their views become the dominant view. So that's the dissenter's hope: that they are writing not for today, but for tomorrow."
The Canadian Bar Association sends its condolences to her family, colleagues, friends and all those who mourn her passing.
