OTTAWA – The Canadian Bar Association and CBA-Quebec welcome the nomination of Nicholas Kasirer, a longtime member of the Association, to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Justice Kasirer, who has established his qualifications for the highest court over a long career as a judge and an academic and is perfectly bilingual, is nominated to one of three Supreme Court seats appointed from Quebec.
Today’s announcement means that the Supreme Court will be operating at its full complement of nine justices when it resumes hearings in the fall.
The Canadian Bar Association is proud to play a role in the Supreme Court of Canada appointment process by participating on the special advisory board, led by former prime minister Kim Campbell, which reviews applications and prepares a shortlist for the Prime Minister. For this nomination, CBA-QuĂ©bec’s representative was Steeves Bujold, Partner at McCarthy TĂ©trault in MontrĂ©al and member of the Executive Committee of SOGIC (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Community) of CBA-Quebec.
The CBA looks forward to a continuing collaboration with the government on the nomination process to the highest court.
