Michèle Moreau is the 2019 Recipient of the CBA’s Douglas Miller Award

OTTAWA – For her outstanding dedication and team spirit and for her genuine commitment to the CBA, Michèle Moreau, Director of Protection and Defense of Rights and Interim Deputy Director for Investigations for the Quebec Human Rights Commission, is being awarded the Douglas Miller Award. 

Established in memory of the late Douglas Miller of Yellowknife, this award recognizes CBA members who participate enthusiastically in Association activities, enjoying both the work and the people involved.  The award consists of a framed photograph of the sculpture entitled “Crane”, carved from musk ox horn by Northwest Territories artist Rex Goose.  Ms. Moreau will be presented with the award at the President’s Dinner in Ottawa on February 12, 2019.

Quick facts:

  • Born in Hauterive on Quebec’s North Shore and graduated with a Bachelor in Law degree from the Université de Montréal in 1989. 
  • Since February 2018, she is Director of Protection and Defense of Rights and Interim Deputy Director for Investigations with the Quebec Human Rights Commission.
  • In 2016, Ms. Moreau was engaged as Executive Director for the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls where she helped prepare the broad guidelines of the Inquiry, coordinated relations with governments and oversaw the logistical operations of the five regional offices across Canada. 
  • Has held more than 13 official CBA roles – from the Chair of the Mid-Winter Meeting Organization Committee to National Second Vice-President and President of the Quebec Branch. 
  • Has been a voting member of the National Council for over 10 years and a member of the Audit Committee, the CBA Re-Think Project Steering Committee, the National Access to Justice Committee, the Law for the Future Fund Board, and the National Membership Committee.
  • She is past Chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee, a position she held for over five years; was a member of the Executive Committee of the National Sections Council, the National Pro Bono Committee and the Membership Fee Review Working Group. 
  • Currectly, she serves the CBA as a member of the Finance Committee.
