Steeves Bujold, President of the Canadian Bar Association, has been appointed Website Officer of the International Bar Association’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Law Committee (LGBTI). He is serving his tenure from January 1st, 2023, to December 31st, 2024.
The IBA’s LGBTI Law Committee focuses on particular legal issues that individuals might face due to their sexuality, gender identity or gender expression. Its members do so by tracking different areas of the law relating to criminalization, discrimination, recognition and status, identity, health, immigration, family rights and various others. The Committee promotes diversity and inclusiveness in the legal profession and in societies around the world by upholding its ideals and calling attention to legal matters.
As an entity of the IBA’s Section on Public and Professional Interest (SPPI), the LGBTI Law Committee is one of many committees providing outstanding services to members by delivering specialized conferences, webinars, pertinent projects and publications throughout the year.
During his ongoing tenure as President of the Canadian Bar Association, Bujold devotes time to promoting LGBTQ2S+ rights within the legal profession and community. His tenure has brought several projects to fruition that reflect this personal priority of his such as the release of the report on Access to Justice for Trans People, produced by the CBA and the HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic of Ontario (HALCO). Furthermore, Bujold has made space for members of the legal profession in justice-seeking and LGBTQ2S+ communities to share their stories on the CBA’s podcast, Conversations with the President, which Bujold hosts.
