The leadership of the CBA Board of Directors renewed on September 1 when Vivene Salmon began her one-year tenure as CBA President and Brad Regehr assumed the role of Vice-President.
Vivene is the first person of colour to become President in the 123-year history of the CBA, and only the second President from the in-house counsel community. Brad is the first Indigenous person to serve as Vice-President and will become the first Indigenous lawyer to be CBA President in 2020.

Vivene is Vice-President, Country Compliance Manager, Global Banking and Markets at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Toronto. She is responsible for regulatory change management, privacy and global compliance support for the Canadian business. Vivene received her LL.B. in 2009 from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2010. A CBA member since 2006, she has been actively involved in both the CBA and OBA in various roles and committees.
About Brad
Brad is a Partner with Maurice Law, Barristers & Solicitors in Winnipeg. His legal practice focuses on Aboriginal, administrative, corporate/commercial and real property law. He is the past President of the Manitoba Bar Association, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce in Winnipeg. Brad holds a BA (Joint Honours) degree from the University of Waterloo (1993) and an LL.B. (1996) from the University of Manitoba.
British Columbia representative completes 2019-20 Board
Hugh William (Bill) Veenstra is the British Columbia representative on the Board of Directors for 2019-20. He has a commercial litigation practice that specializes in complex real estate, construction and multi-party disputes. He also has a lengthy history of service with both CBABC and CBA nationally. Bill received his LL.B. from the University of Victoria in 1990 and was called to the B.C. bar in 1992.
He joins six board members in the first year of their two-year terms. Six incumbents are entering the second year of their terms.
