It’s the most wonderful time of the year for CBA members who want a chance to put their stamp on the Association. It’s election season, and all those interested in taking a spot on the Board of Directors, on one of the Board Committees or Subcommittees, or on a CBA Section Executive, are invited to throw their hats into the ring.
First up are the Board nominations in March. We’re looking for Board members who together reflect the diversity of the legal profession and the geography of Canada, as well as a mix of practice types, year of call, language, skills and experience.
Because of the new governance structure and the staggered length of Board terms, this year we’re looking for members from Manitoba, New Brunswick, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Yukon only. Board members from Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nunavut, Quebec and Saskatchewan will complete the second year of their two-year term in 2018-2019. These individuals, along with the incoming Vice President, who is currently the Board member from Ontario, will help orient new board members and ensure continuity.
Eligible candidates can apply from March 6 until April 3.
The application period for Board Committees and Subcommittees starts April 3 and runs until April 30. Lend your knowledge and skills on issues that matter to you—from ethics to equality, access to justice, international initiatives, law reform and much more. Members will be announced at the end of July.
The application period for CBA Section Executives begins April 30 and runs to May 31. Bring your experience to a wide range of activities for lawyers who share your interests or work in your practice area. Section elections will take place in June.
