The law doesn’t operate in a vacuum.
Judicial decisions and legislative developments in one area of law can echo across multiple practice areas. Specialist lawyers who don’t keep abreast of developments from other fields risk doing a disservice to themselves and their clients.
In that spirit, two conferences this fall in Ottawa, CBA Access to Information and Privacy Law Symposium and the CBA Administrative Law, Labour and Employment Law Conference, will feature CPD programming for lawyers whose work spans multiple practice areas.
The ATI and Privacy Law Symposium takes place, Oct. 27-28. It will cover privacy law topics of interest to lawyers specializing in labour and employment law, international law, and administrative law. The Symposium will also feature a keynote address by former Senator James Cowan, who will speak on his work in the Senate fighting discrimination on the basis of genetic characteristics.
The Administrative Law, Labour and Employment Law Conference taking place Nov. 17-18 will devote sessions to pensions and benefits law, Aboriginal law, constitutional law, as well as the privacy and ethical dimensions of social media for lawyers practising in administrative and labour and employment law. Justice Suzanne Côté of the Supreme Court of Canada will deliver the conference’s keynote address.
CBA members are encouraged to take advantage of the following discounts:
- Registrants to one conference are eligible for a 15 per cent discount to the other conference.
