The law is one of the most stressful jobs going, but due to the nature of the profession, legal professionals seem to be among the worst placed to seek help for what ails them.
That’s why the CBA Wellness Forum, in partnership with Bell Let’s Talk and the Mood Disorders Society of Canada, developed an online resource intended as a resource for legal students, professionals to inform them about mental health and addiction issues and the resources available to help those who suffer from them.
“In this program, you will acquire knowledge about mood disorders, causes, symptoms and treatment options, fostering positive prevention strategies, treatment and recovery strategies for depression, anxiety, addiction and stress, reducing stigmatizing behaviours, attitudes and effects, and offering support and resources for recovery and the maintenance of wellness,” says the course website. “All of this is specifically formulated and tailored to the needs and issues facing legal professionals and their families.”
The course, Mental Health and Wellness in the Legal Profession, is free, and registrants who complete it can earn up to six CPD credit hours in most jurisdictions. It can be completed at your own pace, in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Personal information is collected solely for the purpose of registration and CPD accreditation, and will not be shared with other students or third parties.
