Intellectual Property
The IP winner is Sebastian D. Beck-Watt of Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, with his paper called “Just Laugh It Off: Trademark Parody and the Expansion of User Rights”
Construction & Infrastructure Law
The winner of The Atrium is James Judson from the University of Western Ontario with his paper called “Two Models of Pre-Contractual Disclosure in Canadian Construction Law”
Real Property
The Real Property winner is Domenic Cundari from Thompson Rivers University with his paper “The Conflict Between Aboriginal Title and Privacy Property in the Secwepemc Territory”
Administrative Law
The winner of the Paul Smith Memorial Award is Mark Mancini. Details to come.
Environmental, Energy and Resources
The winner of the Gowling WLG-David Estrin Prize was Niall Rand. Details to come.
Health Law
The winner is Alec Yarascavitch, undergraduate law student from the University of Toronto with his paper called “Assisted Dying for Mental Disorder: Why Canada’s Legal Approach Raises Serious Concerns.”
The CBA National Competition Law Section James H. Bocking Award was established to honour the best scholarly paper on a subject relating directly to Canadian competition law or policy.
The Award offers an excellent opportunity for full time students or lawyers (within three years of their call to the Bar) who are interested in competition law to expand their knowledge of Canadian competition law and policy and to build their profile within the Canadian competition law bar early in their career.
Prize: Cash Prize of $2,500 plus complimentary registration, travel and accommodation (as needed) to attend the CBA National Competition Law Section's Annual Fall Conference in Ottawa October 26-27, 2017.
