The first thing you’ll notice about this year’s resolutions is how few of them there are. Volunteers were specifically asked to hold off on proposing resolutions for the August Annual Meeting to ensure we have time to fully debate the first and most important resolution – the bylaw package that will bring the new governance structure into place on Sept. 1.
For obvious reasons, passing this resolution is a key priority of the Annual Meeting. Depending on how much time this one takes, given the restrictions of this year’s 2 ½-hour business meeting format, it’s possible that there may not be time for the other two, in which case they will be put over for discussion at the next Annual Meeting in six months’ time.
The other two resolutions come from the Children’s Law Committee, which calls for a national Commissioner of Children and Youth, and from SOGIC, denouncing the Chechen government’s treatment of gay men, which observers are describing as a “purge.”
Details of the bylaws, including background materials, will be available on the Annual Meeting website, which will go live on cba.org on July 17.
