The CBA is committed to growing membership among law students, articling students and young lawyers, as well as encouraging their engagement with the Association.
To facilitate that goal, the CBA recently launched Connexions as one of the three facets of the new CBA Connect program.
Connexions matches new members – specifically, young lawyers called to the Bar in the last five years – with a peer, also known as a “CBA Connector”, in their area. Different than mentorship, Connectors provide connections.
Connectors help new young lawyer members navigate their way through the CBA in order to get the most out of their membership. They take the time to get acquainted with young lawyers, and provide a variety of information on CBA programs and services that are most relevant to the young lawyer’s personal goals and interests.
Consistent with the new CBA Strategic Direction of “building an engaged and inclusive community,” Connexions enhances young lawyers’ CBA experience, by helping them understand the value of the CBA and encouraging them to become engaged members.
The Connexions program is being pilot-tested this fall in the following six jurisdictions: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Prince Edward Island.
