Legal process outsourcing has been touted as “game-changer” for the legal profession, the creator of a paradigm shift in the way law firms – and other firms that have legal needs – do business.
The size of the LPO market internationally has been estimated at $3 billion and growing. But it’s hard to say whether Canadian firms have jumped aboard the LPO bandwagon.
“While growth of LPO has been recognized in Canada, there has been little-to-no formal research on the attitudes and usage patterns of Canadian lawyers toward this business,” says CorbinPartners Inc., a leader in Canadian market research.
Together with the CBA and Taran Virtual Associates, CorbinPartners is launching a study of practising Canadian lawyers to try to gauge the state of LPO in this country. The specific objectives of the study are:
- To track existing usage, overall and with certain types of legal services
- To identify motivations, barriers and influences to trial
- To highlight any gaps between business need and supplier availability
- To obtain input on existing best practices
- To discover key areas of improvement
To this end, CorbinPartners is offering a national online English-language survey for practising lawyers – both private and in-house – to complete. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes and those who take part will receive a confidential selection of top-line results and an honorarium in the form of a cumulative contribution, based on completed surveys, to the IP Innovation Foundation. This charitable organization includes such beneficiaries as SickKids Foundation, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, and IP Osgoode.
The survey can be found online. It will conclude on June 30.
