In August, the CBA Young Lawyers Forum once again played a very active role in the CBA Legal Conference. This year’s program focusing on skills-based programming and featured speakers was quite different from years past. The programing was stellar, with several new and returning events aimed at young lawyers, from the first timers/young lawyers Smoothie Social to the ever popular late night bash. If you didn’t get a chance to attend you will want to make a point of registering for next year’s conference in Ottawa.
At the CBA Council meeting before the CLC we got the go-ahead to create a Law Students Forum. We look forward to collaborating and working with law students on future projects and initiatives.
In September, the CBA Young Lawyers Forum Chairs came together in Montreal for the annual Directorate meeting. The meeting spanned 2 days and included roundtable presentations and discussions on a new CBA Legal Futures publication for young lawyers (see the article NewLaw needs new lawyers – are you up to the challenge? in this issue for a sneak peek at the project) and the CBA Re-Think project as well as updates from the provincial and territorial sections from across the country. The second day was dedicated to an interactive strategic planning session.
We need your input and ideas to help shape the future. Please continue to stay engaged with us. Contact us anytime with your suggestion. You are, after all, the future of the legal profession.
