The CBA National Taxation Law Section is seeking nominations for a 2nd Vice-Chair for a two-year term from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2027.
2nd Vice-Chair
The 2nd Vice-Chair plays a leadership role on the CBA/CPA Canada Joint Committee on Taxation, attends meetings, circulates minutes in a timely manner, and otherwise assists the Executive as needed.
The Second Vice Chair of the Tax Section automatically becomes a member of the executive of the Joint Committee on Taxation of the Canadian Bar Association and Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (the “Joint Committee”). The Joint Committee is especially active.
About the role:
- The Joint Committee provides input to the Department of Finance on technical aspects of proposed and current tax legislation and recommends amendments to simplify and improve the law.
- The Second Vice Chair works closely with other members of the executive to:
- Review and discuss proposed and existing tax legislation
- Assist in preparing detailed submissions to the Department of Finance
Term and time commitment:
- Typical term on the executive is 8 years:
- 2 years as Second Vice Chair
- 2 years as First Vice Chair
- 2 years as Chair
- 2 years as Past Chair
- The role requires a significant time commitment (between 100-200 hours per year).
Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in corporate and international taxation
- Active past involvement in Joint Committee submissions
- Willingness to dedicate substantial time to Joint Committee work
The 2nd Vice-Chair sequentially occupies each office through to Past Chair, which involves an eight-year commitment.

Additional nominations must be received by May 30, 2025. When filling positions, the Section’s primary consideration is experience on the CBA/CPA Canada Joint Committee on Taxation since the main function of the Section Officers is to play a leadership role on the Joint Committee.
