Thomas Mathews of the University of Ottawa wins 2013 CBA James H. Bocking Memorial Award

Thomas Mathews, a graduate of the University of Ottawa's Juris Doctorate (National Program), is the winner of the 2013 Canadian Bar Association (CBA) James H. Bocking Memorial Award for his paper, “The Failing Firm Defence: Re-examining Canada’s Approach to Rescue Mergers in Light of the US and EU Experience.” The award is presented annually for the best scholarly paper submitted to the CBA’s National Competition Law Section on a subject directly related to Canadian competition law or policy.

CBA Annual Competition Law Fall Conference

The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) is holding its annual Competition Law Fall Conference at the Ottawa Convention Centre on October 3 and 4, 2013. On the agenda are sessions on the latest developments and issues in advertising and marketing, intellectual property, cartels, unilateral conduct, and the disclosure of confidential information in competition cases, among others.

4th Annual Access to Information and Privacy Law Symposium

The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) will hold its 4th Annual Access to Information and Privacy Law Symposium at the Westin Hotel, Ottawa, on September 27 and 28, 2013. Sessions will focus on key developments in privacy law both internationally and provincially, including employee privacy, access rights and litigation, new health privacy legislation, the impact of new technologies on access to information, and social media privacy rights from birth past death.
