Calls for Nominations

A number of CBA National Sections and Forums are putting out the call for nominees for a number of upcoming awards. Do you know someone who fits one of these bills? 

CBA Jane Burke-Robertson Award of Excellence in Charity and Not-For-Profit Law

This award recognizes, honours and celebrates a lawyer who has made an exceptional contribution and/or achievement in the development of charity and not-for-profit law in Canada. The award is named in memory of the late Jane Burke-Robertson in recognition of her outstanding commitment to the CBA and her many contributions to the specialty of charity and not-for-profit law. The award will be presented at the National Charity Law Symposium on May 12, 2017 in Toronto.

The John Tait Award of Excellence

The John Tait Award of Excellence recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of Public Sector Lawyers in Canada. The award will be presented to a public sector lawyer or law office who has achieved the highest standards of professional conduct and competence and made significant contributions to social justice or community affairs, and who exemplifies preeminent public service.

Cecilia I. Johnstone Award

The Cecilia I. Johnstone Award was established in 2007 to recognize women who have achieved professional excellence in their field and influenced other women to pursue legal careers, supported other women in career advancement or opened doors for women lawyers in a variety of job settings that historically were closed to them. It is named to honour an outstanding lawyer, judge, CBA President, woman and friend who passed away April 15, 2006.

Young Lawyers Pro Bono Award

The Young Lawyers Pro Bono Award recognizes outstanding pro bono legal services to the community by a young lawyer in Canada. It is open to CBA members under 40, or who have practised for 10 years or less.

The Honourable Walter S. Tarnopolsky Award

This award is given by the Canadian Section of the International Commission of Jurists each year to a Canadian resident who has made an outstanding contribution to human rights, domestically or internationally.  The award takes the form of an inscribed bronze medallion and an honorarium of one thousand dollars. Groups are not considered as candidates, and the award is not given posthumously.
