The Small, Solo and General Practice Forum is seeking nominations for the positions of Secretary-Treasurer and Communications Officer for the term of September 1, 2012 to August 31, 2014. Five Executive Member positions are also open, each for a one-year term from September 1, 2012 to August 31, 2013

For further details, please see the full Call for Nominations.

Call for Articles

We are seeking ideas for themes and short articles (500 - 1,000 words) for the CBA Small, Solo and General Practice Forum newsletter, General Knowledge. Articles or suggestions for themes can revolve around recent cases, recent case comments, updates on recent legislative developments or analysis or information pieces about other matters of national interest and importance to lawyers who practice in small, solo and general practices.

Please take a moment to consider writing a brief article, or to assess whether an article already written might be suitable. Articles that are not published in the upcoming edition may be published in a subsequent newsletter or posted on the Forum’s webpage.

Articles can be submitted in English or French, to Robert Shawyer.

Succession Law Tables of Concordance

CBA’s Wills, Estates and Trusts Section has assembled Succession Law Tables of Concordance.  The Tables provide a quick reference to basic information about estate and succession laws in Canadian jurisdictions and links for ready access to make enquiries of court and land titles officials.  They are a convenient starting point for lawyers considering estate files complicated by interprovincial issues or performing services in neighbouring jurisdictions. They are also a handy tool for those seeking to reform and harmonize succession law in the provinces and territories.  A comprehensive update of the Tables of Concordance was launched in 2011, along with changes to the website to provide easier access.
