FSM activities at the Canadian Legal Conference 2008 and Call for Nominations


Monday, August 18
12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
- Business meeting

All Conference members are welcome to attend!

The meeting agenda includes the election of a Secretary-Treasurer for 2008-2010.

Nominations from FSM members may be sent in writing to the nominating committee, c/o Edith S. Pérusse prior to August 12. Nominations will also be accepted at the business meeting.

2:30 – 4:00 p.m. – CLE 2.2 – 400 Years of French Language Influence and Canada’s Hybrid Judicial System

4:30 – 6:00 p.m. - Reception
The reception is a collaboration of the Québec Branch of the CBA, La Fédération des associations de juristes d’expression française de common law, Le Barreau du Québec, Cox & Palmer, and Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP.

– FSM/FAJEFCL Meeting

The purpose of the Conference is:

  1. to make the Association, its Branches and its members aware of the practice of common law in French, identifying and making members aware of relevant tools and resources;
  2. to work with National and Branch Sections, Conferences and Standing Committees to promote the organization of meetings, continuing legal education and other programs in French;
  3. to organize common law programs and programming in French at meetings of the Association;
  4. to work with other organizations interested in common law in French;
  5. to examine the evolution of linguistic rights in Canada;
  6. to promote linguistic equality within the legal profession and the Association; and
  7. to publish a regular bulletin to inform those using the French language in the Canadian legal milieu. (03-07-M)
