A Harmonized Sales Tax will replace the current Provincial Sales Tax as of July 1, 2010, and will apply to goods and services currently subject to the federal GST. This includes all professional services, whereas the PST only applied to legal services. Legal Aid services are currently exempt from GST and it is expected that this will also be the case with the new HST.

Minister of Finance Colin Hansen and Premier Gordon Campbell have committed to continued dialogue with the CBA and other professional and industry associations, as the transition and implementation provisions are developed.
