Discussion topics will include:

  • interjurisdictional practice of law;
  • the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and the World Trade Organization negotiations regarding trade in and regulation of professional services;
  • building a successful law firm;
  • succession plans for law firms;
  • marketing your practice;
  • home offices for profit and fun; and
  • technology tradeshow.

The Courts and The Public: A New Approach
The second in a series of CBA public forums will be held on March 9, 2000 at CBC Vancouver studios, 7:00 - 9:30 pm. The focus of the forum will be on the dynamic and at times tense relationship between the courts and Canada’s various publics and their expectations. Guest panelists will include SCC Chief Justice Beverly McLachlin and BC Court of Appeal Chief Justice McEachern.

The CBA BC Branch is pleased to partner with Simon Fraser University and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in presenting this forum as a means to increase public awareness of, and dialogue about, the role of the law and lawyers in society.
