Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant is the primary contact for resolving fundamental accounting and routine transaction inquiries. The role is responsible for treasury management, general ledger transactions, reconciling and monitoring both individual accounts, as well as program results. The Senior Accountant assumes responsibility for full cycle accounting and is the audit lead for affiliates.

Bilingualism an asset (English and French)




  • Treasury management and bank reconciliation for multiple companies and Trusts
  • Balance Sheet and Income Statement reconciliation - e.g., capital assets, investments, deferred revenue, membership and internal allocations
  • Program monitoring and reconciliation - e.g., Professional Development
  • Full cycle accounting and financial reporting for affiliates
  • Regular and ad-hoc journal entries
  • Investigating general ledger or cash transactions
  • Audit lead for affiliates
  • Assist with budgeting process
  • Backfill for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
  • Backfill for Payroll
  • Backfill for Project Accountant, International Initiatives
  • Provides guidance with respect to accounting concepts and/or technical expertise to Finance Team members
  • First point of contact for questions regarding financial procedures, transactions, etc.
  • Support to the Finance Manager for special projects


  • Ability to work with tight deadlines

  • Strong analytical, investigative and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong business verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify and implement improvement to processes and procedures

  • University degree (or equivalent) in Accounting/Business or related field
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)


  • Understanding and experience with database and system integration
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and ability to manipulate large volumes of data quickly
  • Knowledge of Great Plains, iMIS Database, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • At least 3-5 years of related experience, including full cycle accounting
  • Experience in a fast-paced Non-Profit or Charity environment


Errors in treasury management, bank reconciliations or financial statements can have serious negative impact on the organization.  Inability to meet specific deadlines can result in failure to meet external commitments (e.g., CRA, GAC reporting). As a leadership role, lack of professionalism may have consequences on team morale and behavior.
