Manitoba legislation on pooled registered pension plans now in force

On July 28, 2017, the Manitoba government filed Regulation 79/2017, the Pooled Registered Pension Plans Regulation under the Pooled Registered Pension Plans (Manitoba) Act. The PRPP Act, which was previously introduced on Nov. 23, 2016, and the PRPP Regulation, both came into force on Aug. 1, 201

The PRPP Act and PRPP Regulation outline the minimum standards that apply to pooled registered pension plans, and the rules and processes for establishing such plans in Manitoba.

​Amendment to Manitoba Pension Benefits Regulation

On July 28, 2017, the Manitoba government filed Regulation 80/2017 which amends the Pension Benefits Regulation under The Pension Benefits Act. 

Regulation 80/2017 amends the Pension Benefits Regulation to include references to pooled registered pension plans, and to remove references to locked-in retirement income funds. In addition, Regulation 80/2017 makes corresponding updates to the prescribed addenda for life income funds and locked-in retirement accounts that are offered in Manitoba.

Saskatchewan

Regulation amending the Pooled Registered Pension Plans (Saskatchewan) Regulations

On May 18, 2017, the Saskatchewan government filed the Pooled Registered Pension Plans (Saskatchewan) Amendment Regulations, 2017. This regulation amends section 7 of the Pooled Registered Pension Plans (Saskatchewan) Regulations by amending the list of designated jurisdictions to include the province of Manitoba.
