Message from the Chair - October 2018

  • October 18, 2018

As Section Chair, I am pleased to introduce myself and the Section Officers: Aaron Ogletree (Vice-Chair), Tina Parbhakar (Secretary) and Sabrina Bandali (Communications Officer). We also have a great Section Executive Committee team to help with the work of the section and we hope to provide you with valuable resources and information on developments in international law over the next months.

The International Law Section addresses public and private international law issues ranging from treaties and conventions, to international trade, to conflicts of laws. We are the "umbrella" section for all of the provincial and territorial International Law Sections. Through our Branch Chairs, we try to provide coordination for all branch sections on a national level, as well as provide content such as seminars, presentations and articles.

We've set three priorities for ourselves this year. The first is to continue our brown bag sessions started last year. We have held three stimulating seminars addressing intersections between trade and other areas of law, the most recent held in September on the Intersection of International Trade Law and Aboriginal Law. We plan to provide three more sessions on the many cutting edge issues currently facing practitioners of international law over the course of the CBA year. The second initiative is to re-establish our TradeClippings publication, which aims to provide members weekly updates on international trade law by providing a digest of news articles. The last initiative is to keep you informed of developments across all the provincial International Law Sections so you can participate in events outside of your own provincial CBA branch.

Should you wish to join us and help in our planned initiatives, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to working with you and hope that this year will be productive and fruitful.
