Dear Section Members,

As Chair I would like to welcome each of you to our 2018/19 year! Meet the Executive!

The Section advocates for changes to the law and policy relating to health care, institutions and professions. We have continued to actively participate in significant legislation and law reform activities and are trusted advisors on national health law issues.

2017/18 ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Held our Section Executive meeting in May 2018 to discuss new initiatives and planned for Section activities for the upcoming year.
  • Received approval for the 2019 Health Law Summit.
  • Continued participation in the End-of-Life Working Group and its advocacy work.
  • Organized a webinar in April 2018.
  • Conducted our Law Student Essay Contest related to general topics in Canadian health law. View the 2018 winning paper written by Ben Su (University of Ottawa). Next deadline Feb. 28, 2019.
  • Participated in two long-standing coalitions, advancing work of mutual interest; one with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association’s Advance Care Planning Task Force and one with the Canadian Patient Safety Institute.

2018/19 PRIORITIES

  • Strategize and deliver on-line PD sessions for Section members.
  • Plan the Health Law Summit for May 2019.
  • Improve content and frequency of updates on Section website.
  • Seek ways to improve communications between national Executive and the provincial branches.
  • Participate in significant legislation and law reform activities.
  • Student outreach efforts to promote awareness and membership with the CBA, including offering the Law Student Essay Contest.
  • Active engagement of Section members through committee structure and various communication mechanisms including social media.
