Terms of Reference:

The Public Sector Law section was created to address the needs and concerns of lawyers practising within the public sector. The objectives include:
  • promoting the views and interests of government and public sector lawyers within the Canadian Bar Association,
  • encouraging government and public sector lawyers to take a more active interest in the work of the Canadian Bar Association;
  • providing a forum for the exchange of information and ideas in the general area of government and public sector practice,
  • developing and providing continuing legal education and other professional development programs in areas which are unique to government and public sector lawyers,
  • promoting exchange and interaction between members of the private and public bars.

The Municipal Law section deals with legal matters affecting municipal corporations, including assessment and taxation, the proceedings of quasi-judicial municipal bodies, the law of land use and planning, regulatory law enforcement and prosecution, contract negotitions in a municipal context, and labour relations in a policing context. Topics include matters of interest to both large or small, rural or urban municipalities.
