Description of position

Evanov Communications Inc. (ECI) is a strong independent Canadian broadcaster in the radio landscape. With 19 radio stations on its roster, it continues to be one of the industry’s prominent leaders. Reporting to the Senior In-House Legal Counsel, the person in this role will handle a wide range of legal and regulatory matters  including  but are not limited to: labour and employment matters; employment contracts for all employees in QuĂ©bec; civil litigation including legal claims for collection on overdue accounts; contracts  relating to programs on ECI stations; CBSC/CRTC complaints; regulatory issues; contest regulations; translation of legal documents and policies from English to French; and other administrative matters that may rise from time to time.

The position is available immediately and will be based out of ECI’s Toronto or Montreal office.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du QuĂ©bec.
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario (strong asset, highly preferred).
  • Civil law degree from an accredited law school.
  • One to three years of entertainment, commercial, employment, litigation, intellectual property, and/or other relevant experience.
  • Must submit transcripts and analytic writing sample.
  • Must be bilingual (English-French).
  • Previous law firm or in-house experience.
  • Outstanding analytic, communication and organizational skills, including excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple, wide-ranging matters, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change.
  • Demonstrated ability, in a positive and practical manner, to identify, prioritize and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively.
  • Teamwork-oriented attitude.
