In May 2008, the efforts of the CBA Nunavut-Branch to develop LPAC reached a new stage. With the assistance of Mr. Don Murray, of Nova Scotia, a visiting presenter and long term advocate of Lawyers Professional Assistance services and needs, our Branch delivered a full day seminar on Vicarious Trauma. This is a critical issue that Nunavut Counsel need to be particularly aware of due to the demanding nature of our practices and the social suffering Nunavut-resident lawyers encounter and must often engage with intensely in their daily practices.
The seminar and attached materials offer valuable self-assessment and self-protection recommendations, and Mr. Murray also offered counsel to the CBA and Law Society of Nunavut regarding the challenges we face and steps to be taken in moving forward with relevant and accessible LPAC services in Nunavut. During the past year, we have continued to benefit from that advice, individually and as a developing bar. We hope to report further and even better outcomes going forward into 2009-10.
On behalf of the CBA Nunavut Branch, and the lawyers practicing in Nunavut we thank Mr. Murray and the OLAP program for their invaluable support at this critical stage in the development of our territory, Branch and bar.
