The CBA has been chosen to fill one of three spots available to members from the Canadian Working Group for Global Patent Harmonization at an international symposium this June.
Kamleh Nicola, Chair of the CBA National IP Section, will attend the conference along with a representative from the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and one person from Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.
The three, along with representatives from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, will attend the “Cornerstones for harmonization: A B+ Sub-Group/Industry Symposium” taking place in Munich on June 20.
The Symposium is being presented by the World Intellectual Property Organization, which has been working on harmonizing patent law for more than 30 years. The WIPO established Group B+ in 2005 to look at key issues – currently its focus is, according to a Government of Canada website, the international harmonization of substantive patent law. The Group B+ Sub-group was created in 2014 to advance work on select topics in that area. The CBA’s IP Section has been part of this sub-group’s Canadian Working Group.
