The Canadian government is in the process of reviewing its international assistance – looking at what countries our assistance is focused on, how those countries are chosen, and considering the sectoral themes, such as food security, children and youth, where Canada will and should put its emphasis.
CBA International Initiatives staff members were invited to take part in an international assistance review consultation hosted by Global Affairs Canada on May 13.
The CBA advocates a rights-based approach to international development, strengthened collaboration with justice-system stakeholders and improving mechanisms of transparency and accountability.
Since what happens elsewhere in the world has an impact on Canada, in some measure, CBA International Initiatives believes this is a valuable opportunity for members to have their voices heard – to engage in the public consultations whether they’re international development experts or not. What they say will influence Canada's new approach to international assistance and its contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The public can have input until July 31.
