SECTION REPORT – YOUNG LAWYERS
CANADIAN BAR ASSOCIATION – NEW BRUNSWICK COUNCIL
JUNE 25, 2007
Submitted by: Mel K. Norton
Dear Members of Council:
It is my pleasure to once again report on behalf of Young Lawyers Section.
Once again, this year the Young Lawyers Section has remained active. Of most significance, the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers has been revitalized with the addition of the incoming Chair, Josh McElman, Vice-Chair, Ella-Jane Loomis and Secretary/Treasurer, Talia Profit.
While this will be my final year as Chair of the Young Lawyers Section, I will remain as Past Chair for the coming 12 months. In addition, it is my intention to remain available to the incoming Chair and the Executive in the future as it relates to programming for the Young Lawyers.
Regarding activities in which the Young Lawyers have been involved over the past year, these activities have included: 1) participation in the late night party held at the Mid-Winter Meeting; 2) attendance at the National Meeting of the Young Lawyers Section; 3) organizing and participation in Mock Trial competitions held in Saint John; 4) participating in presentations at both the University of New Brunswick Law School and University of Moncton Law School as it relates to assisting law students with preparing for the practice of law, e.g., I had the privilege, as Section Chair, to participate in a panel discussion at the University of New Brunswick Law School during the Law School’s Law Week activities which panel discussion included Mr. Justice Binney; and 5) sponsor and participate in a CLE for young lawyers which was held in Fredericton.
It has been my pleasure to serve as the Chair of the Young Lawyers Section during the past 2 ½ years and I thank the CBA Council for its ongoing support throughout that time.
Respectfully submitted,
Mel K. Norton
