CCCA NB Section Report: June 2007
The New Brunswick Chapter of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA NB) held its 2007 Annual Meeting at the offices of the New Brunswick Securities Commission in Saint John, New Brunswick, on June 14, 2007.
For the annual meeting, CCCA NB invited representatives of the New Brunswick Securities Commission to make a presentation about the New Brunswick Securities Commission and the impact of the Securities Act on businesses. Manon Losier, General Counsel and Secretary of the New Brunswick Securities Commission, and Neil Sandler, Legal Counsel for the New Brunswick Securities Commission, gave an informative presentation on this topic and presided over a question and answer session about the role of the Securities Commission. Mr. Donne Smith, Chair of the New Brunswick Securities Commission, gave welcoming remarks.
After the presentation and accompanying luncheon, special guests Deidre Wade, Past President of the New Brunswick Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and Charles Gervais, a board member of CCCA national, each made a brief presentation.
Manon Losier, in her role as the 2006-2007 president of the NB Chapter of CCCA, reported on the activities and initiatives of the New Brunswick Chapter of the CCCA over the past year. The president’s report included information about CCCA NB’s information, networking and recruitment initiatives over the past year, such as the participation of CCCA NB in the CBA mid-winter meeting in Fredericton. The proposed bylaws of CCCA NB were also developed in 2006-2007, and copies were circulated to the participants who were invited to provide comments at the meeting or in the following days. Erin Toole, Secretary-Treasurer, presented the report of receipts and expenditures for 2006-2007.
The NB CCCA Executive Committee presented their proposed Business Plan and budgeted receipts and expenditures for the upcoming year. Plans include recruiting new members and providing assistance to members in fulfilling their corporate counsel responsibilities.
Proposed activities for 2007-2008 include:
- luncheon meetings and information sessions in Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John on topics of interest to CCCA NB members;
- participation in the CBA mid-winter event scheduled for February 2008 in Saint John; and
- a targeted mailout to recruit new members.
Elections for the 2007-2008 CCCA NB Executive Committee were held at the close of the meeting.
