n Saturday, April 19, 2008, the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch (CBABC) held its province-wide “Dial-A-Lawyer” program between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. During that time, members of the public were invited to call and speak with a lawyer for up to 15 minutes. In 2008 we received 236 calls, 118 of those calls were directed to Chinese speaking lawyers who were recruited by S.U.C.C.E.S.S.

We wish to thank the many lawyers who generously volunteer their time for this event.
"I enjoy participating in Dial-A-Lawyer day as the callers are for the most part very appreciative of our advice. I enjoy listening to each caller’s story, identifying the issues and discussing potential steps to be taken. The concept of a yearly free-legal-advice-day presents lawyers in a positive light.”
John McGreevy, Dial-A-Lawyer volunteer since 2004.

Dial-A-Law Celebrates 25 Years
In 1983, the CBABC identified a need for public access to legal information on a variety of law topics. In collaboration with and funding from the Law Foundation of British Columbia, CBABC sponsored and initiated the Dial-A-Law program, which includes more than 125 scripts of legal information that are written and edited by volunteer lawyers in British Columbia.
In 2008, the Dial-A-Law program celebrated its 25th anniversary. The success of this program is because of the generous funding of the Law Foundation of British Columbia and the availability of Dial-A-Law scripts on the CBABC website and by telephone. We wish to thank the hundreds of lawyers who have generously volunteered their time to this program.
