ne of the cornerstone events held in British Columbia during Law Week is the annual Barry Sullivan Law Cup public speaking contest. The competition is sponsored by the Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch and is open to students enrolled in grades 11-12 in British Columbia. The Law Cup is named in memory of Barry Sullivan in recognition of his contributions to both the legal and educational professions. The Law Cup is presented to the provincial winner of the competition.

The competition was held from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 8, 2010 in the Heritage Courtroom at the Vancouver Art Gallery, 750 Hornby Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. Students presented five minute speeches that pertained to this year's theme "Legal Representation: A Right or a Privilege?".

Plaque and $250
Garret Gerow – Southridge School, Delta

2nd Runner Up
Plaque and $150
Catherine Wang – Crofton House School, Vancouver

The finalists were judged by The Honourable Mr Justice Mark McEwan of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, The Honourable Chief Judge Thomas Crabtree of the Provincial Court of British Columbia, UBC Law Professor Elizabeth Edinger and Vancouver Sun columnist Peter McKight.
