The Inns of Court is a Program of informal discussion and of "dining out" on topics of great interest to junior barristers.  The Alberta version of the Inns of Court follows a program based on the English tradition of dining with senior practitioners and Judges. The Canadian Bar Association Alberta, the Junior Lawyers North Section of Canadian Bar Association Alberta and The Edmonton Bar Association are sponsors of this Program.

We have had twenty-two very successful Programs to date, each held with a group of 20 junior barristers.  A discussion on a particular topic is led by four distinguished members of the Bench and Bar. There is a formal presentation of approximately one hour, following which the participants dine informally (with one presenter at each table of 6).

The thrust of the sessions is one of discussion, not lectures.  The opportunity for learning from the experience of guest presenters will be practical, timely and unique.

We are pleased to announce the 2011 Fall Program is now scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, 2011.  You may wish to reply promptly since space is at a premium and participation will be on a first-come first-serve basis with preference to junior lawyers at the bar five (5) years or less. Participants should have been admitted to the Bar and should be pursuing a litigation practice.

The topic for the November 15, 2011, dinner will be "Professionalism:  A Survival Guide for Junior Lawyers".  This will cover a wide range of information to assist junior barristers to not only survive, but to excel in their interactions with other counsel as well as their appearances before the courts.

The Bench and Bar participants will be The Honourable Mr. Justice B.R. Burrows, The Honourable Judge L.D. Young, Mona Duckett, Q.C. and Tom Achtymichuk, Q.C..  The dinner will be held in the Winter Lake Room (2nd Floor) of The Sutton Place Hotel, 10235 - 101 Street.  There will be a Reception (cash bar) from 5:30 - 6:00 PM, Presentation at 6:00 PM sharp with Discussion and Dinner to follow (approximately 7:30 - 9:00 PM). 

The cost to attend this event is $50.00 per person. Applications must be received by November 7, 2011.
