The Environmental Law section has not been active over the last six months. I accepted the assignment as Chair of the Environmental Law Subsection in April of 2000 after John Bayly left private practice and moved into government. At the time, I was informed there did not appear to be anyone in Yellowknife with an interest in chairing the subsection. I agreed to assist so the subsection would not fold up.
In May, the subsection sponsored a presentation about the implementation of the new MVRMA regime organized by Mary Salaysay. Since then I have, on behalf of the branch, participated in the regular conference calls of the National Executive of the Environmental Law Section and have maintained a limited presence for the branch, primarily in external activities.
Sheldon Toner has subsequently been appointed Chair of the Section. Sheldon is with the Legal Division Department of Justice in Yellowknife. I am willing to continue to assist the new chair as best I can, on the basis of only periodic present in Yellowknife.
Yours truly,
John Donihee
