For the past four years, the CBA has hosted a Forum on IP Litigation Reform where members of the bench and bar engage in an open discussion in “town hall” format, concerning possible areas of procedural reform. The Court is interested in continuing this open dialogue with the IP bar.

PD Program: Advocacy Before the Federal Courts in Intellectual Property Matters - The Art of Discovery

The PD Committee of the IP Section has organized a program that will feature tips on how to prepare for examination for discovery, selecting the best witness, developing successful questioning techniques, making effective use of technological tools, honing your techniques in dealing with difficult witnesses and counsel, and much more!
CBA Annual IP Federal Courts Judges’ Dinner

Every year, the Court Practice Committee of the CBA Intellectual Property Section organizes a dinner for lawyers practicing (or otherwise having an interest) in the field of intellectual property and for judges of the Federal Courts. The Chair, Keri Johnston, and Past-Chair Susan Beaubien invite all IP Section members to attend this event which provides a unique opportunity for members of the bench and IP bar to meet socially. It is also an occasion where the profession pays tribute to members of the bench and bar who have made a significant contribution to intellectual property law in Canada.

Call for Expressions of Interest - IP Users Group
On behalf of the National Intellectual Property Section, we are writing to seek expressions of interest for a position on the IP Users Group for a three year term. Objectives of the Group are to create a competitive, competent and cost effective Federal Court, with a consensus on ways to improve IP litigation.
Members are expected to attend Group meetings and report back to the Section Executive Committee in writing. Meetings are held two or three times each year and may take place in Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal, (currently there is no funding for these meetings). The next meeting will be held in Ottawa on May 17, 2012. The new member will be invited and expected to attend.
Candidates must be Section members and have at least eight years significant involvement in the area of Federal Court IP litigation practice. Nominations must be received by Thursday, April 19, 2012 c/o Rachelle Watson.
Please include a short summary (no more than 250 words) outlining your qualifications and interest.
