Adoption of a Resolution of support to Pakistanis fellow members of the legal profession
Paris, the 4th of December 2007,
The 50 Bars or professional organisations of lawyers, gathered in Paris on the occasion of the opening of the new legal year of the Paris Bar 2007, have unanimously wished to attest their support to their Pakistanis fellow members of profession in adopting the following resolution. Besides, they have taken the engagement to cooperate on the actions to lead in favour of the reestablishment of the rule of law in Pakistan.
Resolution of support to our Pakistanis fellow members of profession
The presidents of Bar associations and associations of lawyers, gathered on the occasion of the opening of the new legal year of the Paris Bar, adopt the following resolution:
Particularly concerned by the current situation of lawyers, magistrates and opponents to the Pakistani regime,
Mindful that despite the release of thousands of Pakistani political opponents, lawyers and magistrates, members of the legal profession are still imprisoned, without access to the minimum proceeding guarantees and in extremely difficult conditions of detention,
Declaring that:
- In any circumstances it is fundamental that the independence of the judiciary, as well as that of the Bars, are respected,
- The security and the freedom of expression of lawyers must be guaranteed at all times,
Require the immediate:
- restoration of the constitution as well as the rule of law,
- reinstatement of the Supreme Court of Pakistan,
- release of our fellow members of the legal profession in Pakistan and all dissidents.
