Kate lives in Iqaluit, the capital city of the Nunavut Territory, in Canada. She works as a barrister and solicitor in the Legal and Constitutional Division of the Department of Justice in the Government of Nunavut. Kate acts as lead counsel on the implementation of the Nunavut Official Languages Act and the Inuit Language Protection Act and on the associated consultation process. In that role, she recently participated in the 8th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues “Discussion on the Arctic” and appeared as a parliamentary witness before the Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs to speak to the protection of language rights in Nunavut. |
