NIAGARA – Michele H. Hollins, Q.C, a partner at Dunphy Best Blocksom LLP in Calgary, has been selected as the recipient of the Canadian Bar Association’s (CBA) 2010 Louis St-Laurent Award of Excellence. The award recognizes distinguished and exceptional service that meets the goals and objectives of the Association.

“Michele is a long standing member, supporter and contributor to the CBA through her many activities at both the national and her branch. Her energy and commitment to the objectives of the CBA set a standard that few others can meet,” said CBA President Kevin Carroll, Q.C., of Barrie, Ontario. “The fact that Michele finds time to contribute to the CBA in so many ways while maintaining a vibrant practice as a partner in her firm, speaks volumes to her dedication to the Association.” 

Ms. Hollins is the Past President of CBA-Alberta Branch and has been heavily involved in the CBA for many years. She is a member of the CBA National Communications Committee and Editorial Committee and was a member of the National Board of Directors and Organizing Committees for the Canadian Legal Conference in Calgary and Midwinter Meetings in Banff and Lake Louise.
Ms. Hollins is a past Director of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (Alberta Chapter) and a current member of the Calgary Stampede Blacksmiths' Committee. She has also served on the board of directors of Alberta’s Lawyers’ Assistance Program and has done volunteer work for the Alberta Diabetes Association, the University of Saskatchewan College of Law Alumni and the Calgary West Little League and Calgary Minor Basketball Association. 

Ms. Hollins is a litigation partner with Dunphy Best Blocksom LLP. She has a diverse litigation background, focusing on employment law. She also has experience in other types of general commercial and civil litigation including debtor-creditor issues, bankruptcy, oil and gas issues, intellectual property claims, injunctive relief, breach of contract claims, shareholder disputes, product liability and estates litigation. Ms. Hollins earned a B.Sc. from the Texas Christian University in 1987 and an LL.B., from the University of Saskatchewan in 1992.

The 2010 CBA Louis St-Laurent Award, which takes the form of a bronze statue of the former prime minister, will be presented at the CBA Awards Lunch on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the Sheraton on the Falls, Great Room C, at 12:30 p.m. The reception is held in conjunction with the CBA 2010 Canadian Legal Conference and Expo in Niagara from August 15-17.
