OTTAWA – Some 400 runners and walkers –including lawyers, judges and the public– will participate in the 15th annual Law Day 5 KM Run/Walk, scheduled for Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Festival Plaza, Ottawa City Hall,161 Elgin Street. Proceeds from the run will be donated to the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation (OCTC), which assists children with disabilities through programs, equipment purchases and research.
“There’s still time to register for the run, so let’s get out there and shake off the winter blues, welcome the arrival of spring, and contribute to a worthy cause,” says organizer John Westdal of Sevigny Westdal LLP, Ottawa.
Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for youth, which includes a t-shirt, food and beverages (generously donated by Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP), and prizes for the top male and female runners. Entry forms are available through The Running Room (preferred) and on the CCLA website. For more information contact Patricia Shapiro at the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation, 613-738-4335. Late registration will be at the site on April 30, from 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost for late registration is $30.
The route starts at Ottawa City Hall, proceeds along the Queen Elizabeth Driveway on the west side of the Canal, turns around at Fifth Avenue and returns to City Hall. The route will be on closed roads rather than the pathway.
Please note: On Friday, April 30, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Queen Elizabeth Driveway will be closed from Laurier Avenue to just before Fifth Avenue.
OCTC provides comprehensive bilingual services to families with children and youth with multiple physical, developmental, and associated behavioural needs. Their programs serve over 2,400 people who require specialized long-term rehabilitation, education, developmental skill building, and behaviour management.
Ottawa Law Day activities are co-ordinated by a committee with members from the Canadian Bar Association, the County of Carleton Law Association, Justice Canada, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic District School Board.
The Canadian Bar Association is dedicated to support for the rule of law, and improvement in the law and the administration of justice. Some 37,000 lawyers, law teachers, and law students from across Canada are members.
