TORONTO – The Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA) has named Daniel Desjardins, Senior Vice-President and General Counsel, Bombardier Inc., winner of the 2010 Robert V. A. Jones Award. In all respects, Mr. Desjardins is a natural leader in the global corporate counsel community. His ongoing promotion of the profession and his ability to hone in with honest clarity on substantive issues affecting the profession, sparks comment and influences its evolution.

Mr. Desjardins leads a global team of over 135 lawyers in 17 countries and is closely involved in the business of Bombardier through his key role on the organization’s Management Committee. He is well known and respected, both domestically and internationally, for his leadership role in the Canadian and worldwide corporate counsel community.

In addition to his leadership of the legal team, Mr. Desjardins, who joined Bombardier in 1998, is also responsible for environmental matters, health and safety, insurance and risk management. Mr. Desjardins is also the Chairman of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee at Bombardier.

Mr. Desjardins takes a hands-on role in managing Bombardier's extensive legal department and is closely involved, with both internal and external legal advisors, in respect of all major legal issues facing Bombardier.

He is an active seminar participant, speaker and writer, including authorship of CCCA Magazine’s “Closing the Deal” column in each issue, of matters of interest to the Canadian corporate counsel community.

Mr. Desjardins' authoritative voice is never shy; tackling issues such as managing international legal departments, controlling external legal costs, and regulatory and legislative matters. Any issue that affects the corporate counsel community attracts his interest and attention.

Mr. Desjardins is committed to enhancing the international stature of the Canadian corporate counsel community and forging strong global links among the profession.

As such, in 2009, Mr. Desjardins took on the challenging role of co-chair of the inaugural CCCA Corporate Counsel World Summit.
