 A Message from the President

PST Letter for Lawyers

In the recent budget the Minister of Finance cut the corporate capital tax for banks reducing the Provincial revenue stream by 120 million dollars. This is the same amount as taken in by our government for Provincial Sales tax on legal fees. So instead of benefiting the many tax payers you and I represent, 6 or 7 large institutions pay less tax while PST continues to be levied unfairly against our clients.

To make the government pay attention to this issue, I ask you to consider having your clients write the Minister of Finance protesting the contued levy of this tax.

Our government does not take our profession seriously on this issue. Perhaps they will listen to our clients.

Ken Walton
President
Canadian Bar Association BC Branch

Note: CBABC members are encouraged to send the attached letter when they invoice their clients outlining the position the CBA has taken on the provincial PST tax. Current president Ken Walton has been keeping this issue in the forefront of BC issues.
