Hooplaw! A Charitable Slam Dunk
Hooplaw! continued its charitable tradition, grossing $27,817.77 on February 26. Net proceeds from the event are expected to exceed $26,000, making this, by far, the most successful year to date. Clark Wilson won the pledge drive contest over all (and for firms with more than 40 lawyers) with $3,735 in pledges. Harris & Company won the pledge drive contest for firms with fewer than 40 lawyers, with $1,375 in pledges. A very honourable mention goes to Blake Cassels & Graydon, which raised more than $2,000 in pledges, and to McCarthy Tetrault and Borden Ladner Gervais which each raised more than $1,000 in pledges. While the charities of Covenant House and the Grizzlies Foundation scored big at Hooplaw!, there were also other scores to settle.
Harris & Co. narrowly defeated Swinton & Co. by 22 points to 21 to successfully defend the Recreational Division Title. Blake Cassels & Graydon edged Derpak White & Co. by 42 to 40 for the Competitive Division Title.
