Solicitors Seek New Opportunities and Louder Voice
As a concurrent event to the National Mid-Winter Meeting in March, the BC Branch is hosting the first-ever President’s Forum on the Future of Solicitor Practice. The Forum will be held Friday, March 6, 1998, at the Ocean Pointe Resort in Victoria, BC from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Designed to attract anyone whose practice includes solicitor work, this one-day event brings together practicing solicitors, judges, experts and entrepreneurs. The morning features fast-paced presentations on some of the field’s hottest topics, ranging from exploration of “new” areas of practice--elder law, multidisciplinary teams, holistic law and mediation--to the role and impact of technological advances, and the role of solicitors in government.
The afternoon kicks-off with a lively panel discussion on the role of solicitors on the bench, with five judges from the Provincial Court, Supreme Court of BC, and the BC Court of Appeal. The Solicitors’ Open Forum which follows will pick up on the theme of building a stronger voice and presence for solicitors, specifically within the CBA and Law Society. From this, recommendations are expected to be forwarded to the CBA.
Anyone interested in attending the President’s Forum is urged to register quickly: this is your chance to find out what’s really “coming down the pipe” for solicitors, and how you can position to take advantage of it. Registration is limited, and the cost is minimal ($37.45 for the entire day, including lunch and tax). To register, call the BC Branch office at 1.888.687.3404, extension 500 (Visa or Mastercard) or ask for a registration form to be faxed to you.
