CBABC Law Student Awards: Scholarship recognizes CBA ideals The year 2000 was the inaugural year of the CBABC Law Student Awards. The University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria both received a $2000 Student Award to present to a law student who best exemplified CBABC ideals. Criteria included student participation in activities supporting members of the profession; promotion of justice, law reform; and equality; and demonstration of public and community service. Award recipients are selected by CBABC and law school representatives.
P Jason Forbes, a first year law student at the University of Victoria, received that law school’s $2000 scholarship. Mr. Forbes is from the Northwest Territories, and combines his legal education pursuits with a wide range of athletic activities and a keen interest in philosophy and politics.
This year UBC had two winners who shared that university’s $2000 award. For information about UBC’s winners, please see the December 2000 issue of BarTalk, Vol 12, No 6.
Kelowna Lawyer Wins Excellence Award The CBABC is pleased to announce that a past recipient of the CBABC Community Service Awards was awarded Kelowna’s 2000 “Excellence in Leadership Award”. Paul Mitchell, of Pushor Mitchell, received the Excellence Award, which is given annually to an individual in the Kelowna business community who “demonstrates leadership by their commitment to their community and their business.” Congratulations, Mr. Mitchell.
