Leonard T Doust, QC of McCarthy Tétrault LLP's Vancouver office is the 2011 recipient of the President’s Medal. The Public Commission on Legal Aid was very fortunate to have Mr. Doust agree to be the Commissioner of this very important piece of public work of which the Branch was a partner. Len Doust, QC is one of the most respected criminal lawyers in British Columbia and for him to spend his passion and commitment on public consultation on legal aid while still active in his practice was a huge undertaking. His intense commitment to legal aid undoubtedly underpinned his hearings and report to the credit of the initiative.
The recipient is personally selected by the CBABC president and it is awarded annually by the CBABC president. The medal recognizes one or more of the following: legal academic proficiency; outstanding works of legal scholarship; significant contribution to the profession; or noteworthy contribution to Canadian public life.
