How to Report Your Professional Development Hours

CBABC Professional Development Reporting Hours
All Law Society members are required to report their Professional Development (PD) hours every year. As a service to CBABC members, we automatically record your attendance at Section meetings and other CBA PD events when you sign-in at the meeting or register for a CBA PD event.

We'll make it easy for you -- when it's time to report to the Law Society, you'll have a printable record of your PD hours. And you can check your record any time, to see if you've completed your mandatory 10 hours of PD plus two hours of ethics/practice management requirement.

To view your report visit www.cba.org/pd/trackingTool.aspx.

Log in with your Surname and CBABC Member ID number.

Print off your report and use it as a guide when you report to the Law Society.

Reporting Your Professional Development Hours on the Law Society Website
Visit www.lawsociety.bc.ca.

Log in with your Surname and Law Society Member ID number.

Click on “Continuing Professional Development,” then click “Record Credit.”

If you are having difficulty finding your course, try searching without the course date or search by course name under keyword only. For example, if you are looking for a CBA Family Law Section meeting, type "section" or "family" under keyword and change the provider dropdown to "Canadian Bar Association - BC Branch" and click search.

Select the course name or group study name to see further information and to fill out your credit information. Courses will require you to enter your total course hours. Group studies require you to specify your participation type (the default is as a participator) and your total group study hours. If you do not see your course or group study listed in the search results, submit a Course Request Form or Group Study Request Form. For non-course or non-group study credit, fill out the applicable forms: Teaching Request Form or Writing Request Form.

Recording hours for previously approved courses, Section meetings, conferences, etc:

  1. Type part of or the full course name into the keyword section.
  2. Change the provider name.
  3. If you want, change the credit type to "course" or leave it as "ALL" (either way works).
  4. If you want, enter the course dates but it is not required and it may be easier for you to NOT search by course date.
  5. Click "search."
  6. When the course appears in the list below, click on it.
  7. On the right side of your screen, enter the number of hours that you attended in the "record your hours" box.
  8. Click "get credit."

Recording hours for previously approved study groups:

  1. Type part of or the proper study group name into the keyword section.
  2. Click "search."
  3. When the study group appears in the list below, click on it.
  4. On the right hand side of your screen, enter the number of hours that you attended in the "record your hours" box.
  5. Confirm if you were a facilitator or participator.
  6. Enter the date of attendance.
  7. Click "get credit."

Your record should now be updated. Go to "Your CPD Info" if you wish to check your hours.
